The store front, with its fairly large selection of books, sacramentals, statues, icons, and more, is only a small part of the business. By The Cross can help churches fill their other liturgical and educational needs.

Formerly a computer consulting business owner, Rick Jacobs opened The Book Deal, 319 W. Beltline, No. 111, with his brother and Derr in 2018 after selling books online for seven years. He finds owning the bookstore to be more interactive and less stressful than running his computer business.


The following bookstores have co-signed with ABA President Ann Christophersen a letter that calls for state governors and other elected officials to immediately take steps to enforce state tax laws fairly and uniformly


Independent bookstores act as community anchors; they serve a unique role in promoting the open exchange of ideas, enriching the cultural life of communities, and creating economically vibrant neighborhoods.

18. Re-book It (Los Angeles)Re-Book It is a free community pick-up service provided by The Last Bookstore to ensure that no books end up in landfills, but instead find new homes in the hands of readers.


I volunteer in the books corner at a thrift store, and we get a lot of books that come through the store more than once (often our price stickers are still on them). We take books in any condition, but those in bad shape, or too dated to be useful (like computer books for long-gone software), go to paper recycling.


If you are in Chicago, consider donating books to Open Books. They operate several used book stores and proceeds benefit their literacy programs for students from early childhood through grade 12. Teachers can also fill a box of books for free on every visit. 2ff7e9595c
